Abu Dhabi's 'Salama' application, which tracks school bus trips in real-time will now cover all government schools and some nurseries in the emirate.
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) announced the expansion of the system following the success of its initial phase, which included private and charter schools.
The app was developed in collaboration with the Department of Education and Knowledge and the Emirates Schools Establishment as part of a unified system for managing school transport.
It records students' attendance, boarding and arrival times and also enables parents to directly communicate with bus supervisors and operators.
According to the ITC, 239,000 students in Abu Dhabi currently rely on school transport, accounting for around 49 per cent of the emirate's total student population.
