Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the completion of traffic enhancements on Umm Suqeim Street, which includes the opening of a 500-metre road leading to Kings' School.
This new road features two lanes in each direction and connects the school's entrances to a recently constructed detour. The improvements are expected to reduce traffic congestion in the area by up to 40 per cent during peak hours.
These changes are part of the RTA's Quick Traffic Improvement Plan for 2024, which aims to improve traffic flow and increase road capacity in line with Dubai's sustainable growth. The upgrades also aim to enhance traffic safety, particularly around school zones.
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the RTA's Traffic & Roads Agency, said that this work is part of the larger Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, which spans 4.6 km from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
This project will boost the street's capacity by 30 per cent, accommodating up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.
Al Shehhi added that as part of the recent improvements, the RTA has allocated 200 temporary parking slots for the 2024-2025 academic year to facilitate orderly parking for school-goers, teachers and parents.
