Final preparations are underway for the launch of the UAE's Earth-observation satellite MBZ-SAT, later this month.
Named in honour of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the satellite marks a significant milestone in the UAE's space exploration efforts.
Developed in the UAE, MBZ-SAT underwent comprehensive testing at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), where it successfully completed rigorous environmental tests.
The satellite was then transported to Vandenberg Space Force Base in California for final launch preparations.
Fully developed by Emirati engineers at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), MBZ-SAT will revolutionize Earth observation with its advanced imaging capabilities.
It offers image accuracy twice as precise as previous models and can capture ten times more imagery. Its automated system will process and deliver images in under two hours, supporting key areas like environmental monitoring, disaster relief and infrastructure management.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology, including electric propulsion, a highly accurate navigation system, and enhanced data transfer speeds, MBZ-SAT is set to deliver unparalleled precision in imaging.
Nearly 90% of its mechanical structures and key electronic modules were developed in collaboration with local UAE companies, driving growth in the country's aerospace sector.
Once operational in low Earth orbit, MBZ-SAT will be managed from MBRSC’s Mission Control Centre, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leader in space technology and innovation. The upcoming launch is another major step in the UAE's ambitious space programme.
