Dubai is committed to launching innovative projects aimed at achieving long-term food security and self-sufficiency.
That's according to Dubai's Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who toured 'Bustanica', the world’s largest vertical farm that recently opened in the emirate.
He said the launch of the facility worth nearly AED 150 million reflects Dubai's priority in enhancing agricultural self-sufficiency through the use of advanced technologies.
The hydroponic farm, located near Al Maktoum International Airport is geared to produce more than a million kilogrammes of leafy greens annually while requiring 95 per cent less water than conventional agriculture.
It has been developed by Emirates Crop One, a joint venture between Emirates Flight Catering, and Crop One, an industry leader in technology-driven indoor vertical farming.
