Authorities in Dubai are taking further measures to promote healthy lifestyle and nutrition choices in private schools.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) have signed an MoU, aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of students, school staff and parents.
Policies, standards and guidelines for health-related aspects in schools will be updated on a periodic basis. The plan also includes the implementation of initiatives and awareness programmes related to healthy lifestyle, physical activity and proper nutrition.
The agreement, which was signed on the sidelines of the Arab Health exhibition, focuses on providing health and psychological support for students with special needs in specialised centres and educational facilities.
It also covers nine areas of support in the disease prevention system and the commitment of both parties to address any emergency health cases.
The DHA will supervise the training of healthcare personnel such as doctors and nurses in private school clinics, as well as medical screening programmes, vaccinations and early detection of chronic diseases.
"Health security in schools is a shared responsibility between the authorities and all relevant stakeholders and families. Children should have a conducive environment at school and at home for their overall wellbeing and in order to achieve academic success and excellence," said Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, the DHA's Director General.
"The MoU with our colleagues at the DHA reflects our shared commitment and dedication to ensuring the health and safety of our students and all members of the educational community as a top priority," added Aisha Abdulla Miran, the KHDA's Director General.
