UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks with his South Korean counterpart Lee Jae-myung, who is on a state visit to the Emirates.
The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation under their Special Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
Their meeting at Qasr Al Watan focused on boosting economic, trade and investment ties, with a special focus on renewable energy, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, sustainability, education and culture.
Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE and South Korea enjoy a strategic relationship built on trust and mutual respect. He highlighted the 2024 Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement as a key milestone in expanding joint economic growth.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration and exchanged views on regional and global developments, stressing the importance of promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
Lee praised the strong ties between the two countries, calling the UAE and South Korea “models of development,” and expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome he received. He also signed the VIP guestbook.
To mark the visit, Sheikh Mohamed hosted a luncheon in honour of the Korean leader and his delegation.
The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of several memoranda of understanding and agreements aimed at strengthening ties:
- Strategic Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Framework: Exchanged by Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority, and Bae Kyung-hoon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea.
- Memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence: Exchanged by Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak and Bae Kyung-hoon.
- Cooperation project between the UAE Space Agency (UAESA) and the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA): Exchanged by Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, UAE Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, and Bae Kyung-hoon.
- Memorandum of understanding on comprehensive cooperation in the field of biohealth: Exchanged by Saeed Bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Oh Yu-Kyoung, Minister of Food and Drug Safety of the Republic of Korea.
- Memorandum of understanding on the administration and operation of the UAE-Korea Economic Cooperation Committee: Exchanged by Saeed Bin Mubarak Al Hajeri and Kim Jung-kwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Resources of the Republic of Korea.
- Cooperation arrangement in the field of intellectual property: Exchanged by Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, and Kim Yong-sun, Minister of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Korea.
- Partnership to strengthen nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, and global market cooperation: Exchanged by Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, and Kim Dong-cheol, President and CEO of KEPCO.
