The UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United States, known collectively as the QUAD, have issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to restoring peace and security in Sudan.
Following high-level consultations, the four nations stressed that there is no military solution to the ongoing conflict, which has triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises and threatens regional stability.
They have called for a three-month humanitarian truce to allow aid to reach all parts of Sudan, leading to a permanent ceasefire, and for an inclusive, civilian-led transition process to begin immediately after.
That process, they said, should conclude within nine months, leading to a legitimate and accountable government chosen by the Sudanese people.
The statement also warned against external military support to any of the warring parties, calling it a factor that prolongs the conflict and destabilizes the region.
The QUAD ministers reaffirmed their support for existing mediation efforts, including the Jeddah Process led by Saudi Arabia and the United States, and the Cairo forum for Sudanese civil and political forces organised by Egypt.
They pledged to continue coordinated efforts at both ministerial and sub-ministerial levels to bring about a permanent ceasefire and lasting peace in Sudan.
