The UAE Food Bank delivered meals to more than 18.6 million people worldwide in 2023, exceeding its target of 12 million.

The initiative, which distributes surplus food to those in need, made a significant positive environmental impact by diverting 6,000 tonnes of food from landfills last year.

It received support from 800 donors in 2023, including local and international charities and food establishments, and received around AED 14.7 million in funds.

As many as 105 awareness programmes were organised, engaging nearly 9,843 participants and involving 1,800 volunteers.

The Food Bank, which falls under the umbrella of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, collected a diverse range of items throughout the year.

These included fruits and vegetables, prepared meals, rice, wheat and its derivatives, pasta, meat, dairy products, other grocery items, and water.

As part of relief campaigns in response to the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the Food Bank delivered about 293 tonnes of food to the Emirates Red Crescent.

Another 54 tonnes of food aid was dispatched to flood-hit Libya, and 60 tonnes were sent out to support the 'Compassion for Gaza' relief campaign.
