The Mubadala World Tennis Championship (MWTC) in Abu Dhabi is set for another on-court first.

It will host the first-ever meeting between Australia’s Ajla Tomljanović and five-time grand slam champion Maria Sharapova.

Tomljanović replaces 18-year-old Amanda Anisimova, who has picked up an injury. The Fed Cup finalist will be the first Australian, male or female, to feature in the championship.

The women’s match will be played on the opening day of the tournament, which runs from December 19-21 at the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City.

Aside from the best live-action on the court, ticket holders can look forward to tennis clinics, Q&A sessions with the players and a host of activities and competitions offering great prizes.
