Real Madrid have moved up to second in La Liga after crushing Leganes 5-0.

Karim Benzema scored a penalty and set up two more goals to help his team register their biggest win since Zinedine Zidane’s return as coach.

Madrid are now within one point of defending champions Barcelona.

Athletic Bilbao ended a five-game losing streak by beating Espanyol 3-0 and Nabil Fekir's 90th-minute winner helped Real Betis edge Celta Vigo 2-1.

Elsewhere, Sevilla were held to a  1-1 draw at Valencia, while Real Sociedad lost 2-1 to Levante at home.

In Italy's Serie A, Juventus moved back to the top of the table but had to work hard for it.

They needed a 90th-minute penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo to secure a 2-1 win over Genoa, in match that saw three red cards.

In other games, 10-man Roma thrashed Udinese 4-0, Atalanta drew 2-2 with Napoli, Fiorentina overcame Sassuolo 2-1, and Lazio crushed Torino 4-0.
