Kamaru Usman retains UFC Welterweight title in Abu Dhabi

Kamaru Usman beat Jorge Masvidal in their UFC welterweight title fight in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

He defended his crown via unanimous decision in the headline bout of UFC 251 at Flash Forum on Yas Island.

The judges scored the fight 50-45, 50-45 and 49-46 following a 25-minute battle.

Usman has now won 12 straight fights in the division, while also notching a second straight title defense.

Elsewhere, Max Holloway lost the UFC featherweight title clash against Alexander Volkanovski via split decision.

The fight ended 48-47, 47-48, 48-47 in Volkanovski’s favour.

Holloway drops to 21-6 overall, while Volkanovski improves to 22-1 while retaining the belt.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Petr Yan won the vacant UFC bantamweight championship with a fifth-round stoppage victory over Brazilian José Aldo.

Yan was declared the winner at 3:24 into the final round as he captured the 135-pound title in his seventh UFC fight.
