Premier League: United overcome Arsenal, Spurs beat Swansea

Manchester United secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Arsenal, to boost their hopes of a top-four finish, and dent the Gunners title aspirations. United’s injury crisis meant a re-jigged and youthful line-up for the clash at Old Trafford, but despite being the stronger team, on paper at least, a tepid Arsenal couldn’t capitalise on their opponent’s frailties. Following on from his double in Europe last week, teenager Marcus Rashford opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, steering home a loose ball, before adding another with a deft header just minutes later. Former Red Devil’s striker, Danny Welbeck, pulled one back for Arsene Wenger’s men just before half-time, but United restored their two-goal cushion through Ander Herrera’s deflected strike on 65 minutes. Mesut Ozil soon gave the visitors renewed hope, but they couldn’t find a way through and United held on for a deserved win. Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur completed another come-from-behind win in beating Swansea 2-1 at White Hart Lane.The hosts fell behind on 19 minutes as Alberto Paloschi found the net from Jack Cork’s pass. But Spurs, who won more points than any other side this season from losing positions, fought back with late goals from Nacer Chadli, who deflected in Kyle Walker’s effort, and Danny Rose, who drove home after the ball fell to him from a corner. It takes Mauricio Pochettino’s side to within two points of Leicester at the top of the league, keeping their hopes of a first league title since 1961 very much alive.
