Southampton have set a new record for the fastest Premier League goal but it was not enough for them to secure victory against Watford.

Shane Long scored in a time of 7.69 seconds but the hosts grabbed a late equaliser to make it 1-1.

The draw leaves Southampton still with work to do to guarantee their Premier League survival.

They are on 37 points, six ahead of 18th-placed Cardiff City, who occupy the final relegation slot, with three games remaining.

At the other end of table, third-placed Tottenham registered a 1-0 win at home against relegation-threatened Brighton.
