2 killed, 2 injured in Dubai highway crash

Two people were killed and two others were severely injured in an accident involving two heavy vehicles on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road on Friday.

The accident took place when a pickup collided with a truck on the Abu Dhabi-bound direction of the highway.

According to Dubai Police, failure to keep a safe distance was the main cause of the incident.

"It led to a rear-end collision with the truck, resulting in the deaths of two men and causing severe injuries to two others. They were promptly transported to the hospital," said Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan urged motorists to comply with the speed limits and to maintain a safe distance between vehicles. He also warned against improper overtaking, sudden swerving and distracted driving.
