Authorities in Abu Dhabi have announced a new public transport fare structure, integrating their city and suburban bus routes from February 28.
The Standard Service fare is set at AED 2.00 boarding fee plus 5 fils for each kilometre, and users can switch between bus services without paying an additional boarding fee for a maximum of two transfers, within 60 minutes of the last tap-out.
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has also expanded the range of passes to include city and suburban areas in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, with the weekly Standard Service pass costing AED 35 and AED 95 for a 30-day pass.
Emirati families of limited income enrolled in social support programmes administered by the Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority, or the Ministry of Community Development are entitled to subsidised public transport passes, with the seven-day pass offered at a rate of AED 30, and the 30-day pass at AED 80.
No changes have been made to the free annual passes for seniors and people of determination, with a plus one, and the student annual pass, worth AED 500. Transport remains free for those aged 10 years and below.
