Dubai Police have reminded drivers of the risks of randomly stopping on the road after three people suffered serious to moderate injuries in a three-car collision on Al Khail Road.
In a statement, Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, detailed that the crash happened as one driver stopped in the middle of the road to pick up a vehicle number plate.
The driver of the second car, he added, was unable to stop in time, and ran over the individual after crashing into his car, and another vehicle.
The first driver suffered critical wounds, while the other two drivers sustained moderate injuries.
No timeline of the incident was provided, but the officer said the accident happened on the Abu Dhabi-bound direction.
A team of traffic experts were at the site to collect evidence before conducting a detailed probe.
Brigadier Suwaidan said those caught stopping their vehicle in the middle of the road - due to vehicle breakdown, lack of fuel or tyre burst - will face a fine of AED 1,000 and six black points. Additionally, a fine of AED 500 will be issued for "obstructing traffic flow".
The senior officer stressed that random stopping is among the most dangerous violations, often leading to severe accidents, fatalities and serious injuries.
Drivers are advised to contact the Dubai Police immediately for assistance following vehicle breakdowns. And, in case of accidents, drivers must take precautionary steps, including "activating hazard warning lights, placing a warning triangle at a sufficient distance behind the vehicle, and stepping away from the vehicle and heading to a safe area before contacting the police".
Traffic accident experts attended the scene to conduct a detailed investigation and collect evidence, while traffic patrols managed the flow of vehicles, secured the site, and facilitated the arrival of emergency response teams to carry out their duties.
