Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started testing autonomous cars in the Jumeirah 1 area.
A safety driver will be present behind the wheel during the initial stages of testing of these Chevrolet Bolt-based autonomous vehicles.
The trials are being carried out in partnership with the self-driving technology company Cruise, which will validate aspects related to driving safety and performance.
The company, which has been running driverless ride hail services in the US since February 2022, has also received the RTA's first permit to test AVs in Dubai.
The RTA already has a partnership agreement with Cruise to operate autonomous taxi and e-hailing services in Dubai in future.
