Dubai’s leading public parking operator, Parkin, has launched an initiative aimed at supporting neighbourhood businesses while making parking more rewarding for drivers.
Called 'Spots for Shops', the scheme allows motorists to offset their parking fees through the Parkin app by shopping at participating local outlets.
In a city where most residents rely on private vehicles, parking plays a key role in shaping where people stop and spend.
While major retail destinations often offer free parking, smaller neighbourhood businesses typically depend on paid public spaces, where even a quick visit can come at a cost. The new initiative is designed to help bridge that gap.
Under the programme, drivers park as usual, pay for their space and then make a qualifying purchase at a participating shop.
The business validates the transaction through the app, and the parking fee is refunded to the user’s Parkin wallet.
From grabbing a coffee to running everyday errands, the initiative aims to turn routine stops into opportunities to support local businesses and boost footfall across Dubai’s communities.
"By seamlessly connecting parking with everyday retail experiences, we are making it easier for customers to access neighbourhood destinations while supporting local businesses and strengthening the wider ecosystem that drives the city’s growth," said Osama AlSafi, Chief Operating Officer at Parkin.
The campaign was developed in collaboration with FP7 McCANN. The creative agency's Regional Chief Creative Officer, Federico Fanti, said: "Dubai is a car-first city, so the parking spot became our canvas. It’s usually the most invisible moment in the day - you stop, pay, leave. With Spots for Shops, we turned that routine moment into a direct connection between people and the businesses around them."
The pilot phase will include 15 businesses, with parking redemption set to go live in early May.
Looking ahead, Parkin says specially branded parking spaces featuring artwork and messaging will also be introduced, helping guide drivers to nearby participating shops and encouraging them to explore more of Dubai’s local offerings.
Spots for Shops Starting 1/5/2026, shoppers can get their parking fees refunded at participating stores when they meet the minimum spend. If you own a small business, don’t miss out!
