The highly anticipated Dubai Metro Blue Line is scheduled to be operational by September, 9, 2029, marking a significant milestone for the city's transportation system.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the project will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro, which originally opened at exactly 9:09 PM on 9-9-2009.
The AED 20.5 billion contract for the Blue Line's construction has been awarded to a consortium of Turkish and Chinese companies — Mapa, Limak, and CRRC.

The 30-kilometre line will feature 14 stations and 28 trains, with an expected capacity of 46,000 passengers per hour in both directions. It will connect key urban areas and Dubai International Airport, reducing traffic congestion on its routes by 20%.
The Blue Line is expected to carry 200,000 riders by 2030, rising to 320,000 by 2040.
It will serve crucial areas such as Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai Festival City, with travel times ranging from 10 to 25 minutes.
This project is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aimed at creating a "20-minute city," where essential services are within a 20-minute journey for residents.
