UAE Customs foils bid to smuggle 16.2kg of drugs through border crossing

UAE Customs authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle 16.2 kg of crystal methamphetamine into the country through a land border crossing.

The drugs were concealed inside a vehicle tyre.

The narcotics were uncovered after customs inspectors identified suspicious indicators during advanced scanning procedures, prompting a detailed manual inspection.

The operation was carried out in cooperation with specialised K9 units trained in narcotics detection.

The seizure was conducted by the General Directorate of Ports Security at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), which said the case highlights the effectiveness of advanced inspection technologies and the vigilance of customs officers.

According to ICP, the General Directorate of Ports Security has recorded 765 narcotics seizures since the start of the year, involving around 390 kg of drugs and 50,000 narcotic pills.
