UAE Minister of State, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, has underscored the importance of intensifying joint action for the "security and stability" in Sudan at the fifth Consultative Meeting in Cairo.
He stressed the UAE’s support for peace efforts... to alleviate human suffering and fulfill the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security and stability.
His participation underlines the UAE’s commitment to supporting regional and international efforts aimed at securing an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce, paving the way for a permanent ceasefire and the launch of a transitional process independent of the warring parties and extremist groups, national news agency Wam reported.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Sheikh Shakhboot also held talks with representatives of several countries, during which they discussed ways to support the Quad’s track under US leadership and strengthening global efforts to achieving an immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire.
The 5th meeting of the Consultative Mechanism to Enhance Coordination of Peace Efforts in Sudan saw representatives from Germany, Turkey, Norway, Qatar, UK, China, Russia, France, Iraq, Angola as well as the EU, Arab League, the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) joins forces to address the conflict in Sudan.
It also saw the participation of UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan Ramadhane Lamamra, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti Abdulkader Hussein Omar, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan and Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed Al Khuriji.
