Warning issued on hard shoulder misuse after 1 killed on Sheikh Zayed Road

Dubai Police have warned about the dangers of illegally stopping on the hard shoulder after a man was fatally run over on Sheikh Zayed Road while inspecting damages to his car from an earlier collision.

According to the statement released on the Dubai Police's social media platform, the man had parked his car on the left hard shoulder, "next to the fast lane", following a collision with another vehicle.

He had stepped out to inspect the damage, when another car on the fast lane crashed into him, explained Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, adding that the impact led to his death.

Brigadier Suwaidan said the crash happened before the Al Yalayis Bridge heading towards Abu Dhabi, without revealing the timeline.

He reiterated that the hard shoulder is designated for "emergency situations like car breakdowns or medical issues", and urged drivers to move their cars to the nearest safe area and avoid stopping on highways during all other situations.
