The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced it will implement Phase I of its 'Dubai Walk' Pedestrian Master Plan project in the historic area of Al Ras.
The project includes the development of the Al Ras walkway, comprising 12 kilometres of walkways and five kilometres of cycling tracks, as well as the rehabilitation of 10 artistic spaces in coordination with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, with the participation of Emirati and local artists.
It aligns with the directives of leadership to transform Dubai into a pedestrian-friendly city year-round and to deliver a step-change in the quality of walkways and pedestrian facilities across the emirate.
The first project will start between now and 2027, with subsequent phases delivered between 2027 and 2040.
The grand vision is to rollout a network of walkways across 160 areas, including the delivery of 6,000 kilometres of walkways by 2040 and the construction of 110 pedestrian bridges to connect districts, aiming to increase the share of walking from 16 per cent in 2025 to 25 per cent by 2040.
