Skywatchers in the UAE can witness the total Lunar Eclipse that will turn the Moon a striking blood red via a livestream set up by the International Astronomical Centre from 7:30 pm onwards on September 7.
The celestial event will be live streamed until 11:50 pm, the Abu Dhabi-based centre announced.
The eclipse, which will be captured via a telescope from Al-Khattm Astronomical Observatory, can be observed in varying degrees across the Arab world, highlighted Engineer Mohammed Shawkat Odah, Director of the International Astronomical Centre.
He added that the eclipse will pass through successive phases, beginning with the Moon entering the penumbra shadow at 7:28 pm, followed by the start of the partial eclipse at 8:27 pm. The total eclipse will begin at 9:31 pm and reach its peak at 10:12 pm, before ending at 10:53 pm.
Odah explained that the partial eclipse will end at 11:57 pm, and the entire astronomical event will conclude at 12:55 pm on Monday, UAE time.
He confirmed that the event will be clearly visible to the naked eye between 8:15 am and 12:15 am.
Odah added that Moon does not completely disappear during the total eclipse but will turn into shades of yellow, orange, or red, as a result of sunlight passing through the Earth’s atmosphere and refracting towards the Moon.
