Security cameras will now be used to document the activities of Dubai Police officers.
An official resolution (Resolution No. 14 of 2020) regarding this has been issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The decision also allows officers to use cameras in public areas while handling traffic and security violations, and while performing other duties.
They are required to maintain the confidentiality of the footage and are prohibited from transferring, storing or publishing anything without the written consent of the relevant authorities.
Anyone who violates the articles of the Resolution will be subject to disciplinary procedures.
The latest initiative is aimed at strengthening the public's confidence in the police force and also ensuring transparency and accountability.
