UAE airlines cancel flights due to regional unrest

Emirates has announced it is cancelling flights to Iraq, Iran and Jordan on Wednesday and Thursday due to "regional unrest". Flydubai has also said it is cancelling flights to Jordan, Iraq, Israel and Iran on the same days.

A statement on Emirates' website confirmed it is cancelling all flights to/from Iraq (Basra and Baghdad), Iran (Tehran), and Jordan (Amman) on October 2 and 3. 

Emirates say customers transiting through Dubai with final destinations in Iraq, Iran, and Jordan will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until further notice. 

The airline said it will also be cancelling the following flights on October 2:

• EK 837/838 Dubai‑ Bahrain ‑ Dubai
• EK855/86   Dubai ‑Kuwait ‑ Dubai
• EK31/32     Dubai‑ London Heathrow ‑Dubai
• EK866/867 Dubai ‑Muscat ‑ Dubai

Impacted customers must contact their booking agents for alternative travel options or contact the airline if they have booked with them directly.

The airline also said customers departing or arriving at Dubai International Airport should check their flight status on the Emirates website for the latest information regarding their flights

Due to the temporary closure of a number of airspaces on the evening of 01 October, some of flydubai flights have been impacted. 

On Tuesday, a flydubai spokesperson confirmed flydubai flight FZ 143 to Amman International Airport (AMM) and FZ 157 to Ankara International Airport (ESB) have returned to Dubai.

flydubai FZ 728 From Istanbul International Airport (IST) to Dubai International (DXB) has returned to Istanbul. flydubai flights to Jordan, Iraq, Israel and Iran ( with the exception of Bandar Abbas, Kish and Lar) have been cancelled on 02 and 03 October. Passengers connecting to these destinations will not be accepted for their onward travel.

The airline sid it continues to monitor the situation closely and amend its flight schedule accordingly. . Passengers are advised to check flights status on its website for the latest information regarding their flights.

Both airlines say they continue to closely monitor the situation in the region and are in contact with the relevant authorities regarding developments.

Etihad Airways says it is re-routing a number of its flights on Wednesday in response to airspace restrictions in parts of the Middle East.
