Dubai has unveiled a bold new initiative aimed at transforming public spaces into vibrant, community-driven environments inspired by the traditional Emirati fareej, or neighbourhood.

The 'Hewi Dubai' project focuses on creating welcoming areas where families can gather, neighbours can connect, and children can play - all in spaces designed to reflect local culture and promote an active lifestyle.

The initiative was announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Crown Prince and the UAE's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister.

He said the goal is to revive strong community bonds and pass these values on to future generations.

The first model site, Hewi Nad Al Sheba 4, will be developed by the Dubai Future Foundation in partnership with Dubai Municipality.

The park will feature shaded gathering areas, flexible spaces for events and natural play zones, all co-designed with residents to reflect the unique character of the neighbourhood.

Hewi Dubai marks a shift in how the city approaches public space, moving from one-size-fits-all parks to people-first designs rooted in culture and daily life.
