A man disguised as a woman has been caught begging outside a mosque in Dubai.
The Arab national, who wore an abaya and niqab to hide his identity, was arrested following a tip-off from a resident.
Dubai Police said that the man justified his actions by claiming that women tend to receive more sympathy than men.
Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, Director of the Department of Suspects and Criminal Phenomena, reminded the public to be wary of such individuals who take advantage of people's sympathy during the holy month of Ramadan.
He also stressed the importance of not giving money to beggars and to donate only through legitimate channels.
Earlier this week, Dubai Police announced the arrest of 17 beggars on the first day of Ramadan.
The authority urged people to report incidents of begging and other illegal activities by calling 901 or through the 'Police Eye' service on Dubai Police app.
