New smart cameras have been activated in Ras Al Khaimah to detect vehicles with expired registration and insurance.

The radars that went live on Sunday will also flag cars involved in any criminal activity or traffic offences committed in the past.

During trials carried out by Ras Al Khaimah Police, the hi-tech devices showed 95 per cent accuracy in detecting violations linked to vehicle plates.

The smart monitoring system was initially announced by the authority in October.
