Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reported impressive results from its Smart Monitoring System, which uses AI-powered cameras in driving school vehicles to monitor instructors and trainees.
Over the past seven months, the system tracked more than 1.7 million training sessions involving 245,764 trainees - a 14-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
The system, developed by the RTA’s Licensing Agency, cuts inspection time from 20 minutes to just one, while increasing violation detection fivefold.
It automatically spots safety breaches like mobile phone use by instructors or trainees, seatbelt neglect and other distractions including eating, drinking or sleeping while driving.
Additional features like predictive analytics and integration with licensing systems are set to launch later this year, further strengthening regulatory compliance and performance across driving institutes.
