Dubai Police have recovered a cargo vehicle that fell into the waters off Al Hamriya wharf, after the driver neglected key safety precautions.
Divers from the Maritime Rescue Department, along with the General Department of Transport and Rescue, worked quickly to retrieve the vehicle, which was carrying watermelons.
Colonel Ali Abdullah Al Qusib Al Naqbi, Deputy Director of the Ports Police Station, explained that the driver had exited the vehicle to chat with friends, failing to engage the handbrake or shift the vehicle’s transmission to 'park'. This caused the vehicle to roll and fall into the sea.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Divers secured the vehicle with ropes, attached it to a crane, and successfully lifted the vehicle back onto the wharf.
Colonel Al Naqbi urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are fully secured when parked and to take proper safety precautions.
He also emphasised the importance of maintaining vehicles in good condition and following all traffic laws.
For emergencies, the public is reminded to call the General Operations Department at 999, and dial 901 for non-emergency purposes.
