The Emirati official expressed his confidence in the Gulf country and the role its will play in “promoting stability” and “peace” at an international level, adding this historic diplomatic achievement reflects the tireless efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain and praised its "wise" leadership.
Bahrain was elected alongside Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia and Liberia - all of which will serve two-year terms beginning in 2026.
The 15-member council is responsible for international peace and security, consists of five permanent members - Russia, the US, UK, China, and France - and ten non-permanent members elected annually by the UN General Assembly to serve staggered, two-year terms. Votes are held
The newly elected members will join five nonpermanent members whose terms conclude at the end of 2026: Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama and Somalia.
