Dubai Police have issued a warning after a truck crashed into a bus that had broken down on Al Yalayis Street, near the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Bridge heading towards Emirates Road, leaving one dead and 19 injured.
Initial investigations revealed that the bus, which was transporting workers, stopped suddenly and the truck driver failed to brake in time as he didn't maintain a safe distance between the vehicles.
Dubai Police said the injured received treatment at a nearby hospital, with eight suffering critical injuries, two moderate ones, and nine minor injuries.
Without disclosing the time of the accident, Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said traffic patrols responded swiftly to secure the site, facilitate rescue operations and manage traffic flow.
He noted that sudden stopping of cars due to breakdowns, fuel shortages or tyre bursts are a leading cause of fatalities on Dubai roads, urging drivers to ensure their vehicles are regularly serviced before drive it.
Residents are urged to contact the police if they are unable to move the vehicle off the road. They are advised to put the hazard lights on, place a warning triangle behind the vehicle to notify other drivers and move all passengers to a secure spot away from the road.
Stopping on the road carries a fine of AED 1,000 and six black points, while obstructing traffic under Article 98 results in a fine of AED 500.
